Who can participate in the program?
The program is open to staff from transportation, public health and law enforcement agencies, who have an interest in or responsibility for roadway safety issues. For example, at a transportation agency, this may include roadway construction, maintenance, design or traffic operations staff. At a law enforcement agency, this may include incident management staff or patrol officers. At a public health agency, staff who manage car seat programs or impaired driving prevention programs may be interested. Participants should have a working knowledge of roadway safety issues related to their agency and/or job responsibility. Field experience and other similar experience is encouraged.
Who will be administering the program?
The program was set-up with the intention of having multiple host organizations across the country. At this time, several modules are available to potential RSCP administrators. If you are interested in being a host organization, learn more via our new Story Map here. Then contact Jaime Sullivan at firstname.lastname@example.org. Once you have answered the initial startup questions, you will receive the login credentials to download the currently available training materials and to be added to a mailing list for notification when new modules are released.
When and where will the program be available?
At this time, the Rural Safety Center (RSC) does not have any trainings scheduled. The management of the RSC is currently being recompeted by FHWA with transition expected to happen in December 2021. Therefore, the RSC is focusing on finalizing the materials for all modules to make them available to LTAP Centers and the new RSC management team.
Trainings for this program were previously piloted by the RSC in March 2020 in Montana, virtually in May 2020 for the National Association of County Engineers, virtually in September 2020 at the 3rd Rural Safety Summit, and virtually in May 2021 for LTAP Centers and previous RSCP module attendees.
